Europeans fans of the Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young received a disappointing announcement today: Neil Young and Crazy Horse will be canceling the rest of their European tour. This includes both concert dates and festival dates, as well as the group’s upcoming shows in the British Isles.

According to their press release, Crazy Horse guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro was involved in an accident which resulted in him fracturing his hand. Though the accident was by no means serious, it will prevent Sampedro from playing for a few weeks. In lieu of a guitarist, the rest of the band decided to call it quits on the tour.

Despite these saddening announcements, Neil Young and Crazy Horse state that they still plan on playing their North American tour, which begins on August 31st and runs only until they play the Interlocken Festival in Arlington, Virginia on September 7th.

Fans of any nationality may want to make their way to Virginia for the September 7th performance, as things are shaping up for this to be Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s last tour. At 64, Sampredro is currently the youngest member of the group, which does not bode well for a life of continued touring. As the group members get older, expect more and more injuries like these to cancel dates. That being said, between the rumored second Buffalo Springfield reunion tour and his work with Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, something tells this author that this won’t be the last we hear from Neil Young for quite awhile.
